Date

June-July 2017

Description

Archaeological monitoring and evaluation were undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2017 at the former Midmills College Campus, Crown Circus, Inverness. Archaeological site inspections and watching brief were carried out during demolition works in June and July 2017 and a further trial trench evaluation was undertaken in the northeast part of the site in July 2017. The archaeological monitoring revealed thick deposits of mixed topsoil, containing late 19th century ceramics, bricks and other construction debris. The trial trenching identified similar disturbed ground outwith the demolitions area. The natural subsoil was encountered at 1.5- 1.9m deep and no archaeological features were noted. <1>
