Description

An archaeological measured survey and evaluation was carried out in 2016 by AOC Archaeology and volunteers on the Allt Mòraig shieling settlement, located near Struy, Inverness-shire. The survey recorded 27 archaeological sites comprising 22 turf and stone shieling structures, an enclosure wall and other features. The evaluation, undertaken over two of the shielings, provided information about the turf and stone construction and layout of the buildings. Fragments from most of a redware bowl base were recovered from one floor level, providing a potential mid 18th century date for occupation of the shieling. <1> Additional environmental processing and reporting was carried out by E Aitkin in 2016. <2>
