EHG5150 - Walkover Survey - Dorback Estate Woodland Creation Scheme, Nethy Bridge
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
Dec 2017
Description
An archaeological walkover survey was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2017 on land at Dorback Estate proposed for a woodland creation project. The survey was required due to the location of the site within an area considered to have the potential for unrecorded historic environment features to be present. Sixteen archaeological sites were recorded including, clearance cairns, possible prehistoric cairns, an enclosure system post-medieval structures and alignments of shooting butts. Previous survey on the site had identified the remains of several possible hut circles. The present survey located the sites identified, which they have interpreted as unlikely to be hut circles. A mitigation strategy is proposed in order to safeguard the sites from damage during plantation of new woodland. <1>
