Description

Forestry Commission Scotland commissioned the Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology (ORCA) to undertake an archaeological desk-based assessment, walkover survey, geophysical survey and excavation of the Loch Arienas kerb cairn site and environs, Morvern, Highland. The desk-based assessment indicated that the known cultural heritage sites in the study area are dominated by post-medieval remains, including the cleared Allt An Aoinidh Mhor township (ORCA 51-99). This pattern was confirmed by the walkover survey that located the majority of known sites and recorded 19 new sites, including an Iron Age Dun (ORCA 104). No additional prehistoric sites were identified in the vicinity of the kerb cairn (ORCA 112). <1>
