EHG5200 - DBA and walkover survey - Applecross Telecoms Cable
Technique(s)
Organisation
WSP Environmental Ltd
Date
Nov 2017
Description
A DBA and walkover survey of the route of a proposed SSE fibre-optic telecommunications cable near Applecross was commissioned by WSP and carried out by GUARD Archaeology in 2017. An inner study area of approximately 100 m extending out from the limits of the Cable Route was applied to the identification of all known and potential below ground heritage assets, with an extension to 500m buffer for all other designated assets. No new, previously unknown, sites were located during the walkover survey. It was noted during the site visit that a number of assets fall close to the proposed Cable Route. Due to the potential impact on the identified undesignated heritage assets of medieval and post-medieval date and the potential for as yet unidentified remains in Legs 2/1 and Legs 2/2 of prehistoric date in Leg 2/1 it was recommended that a continuous watching brief was maintained during the excavation for the cable trench. <1>
