Date

Description
An archaeological desk-based assessment and walkover surveys were carried out for Grant Holroyd of the Knoydart Forest Trust, Knoydart, Lochaber, in advance of proposed woodland creation projects. The work was undertaken to assess the nature and extent of any archaeological sites likely to be affected within the areas outlined for planting and regeneration within the scheme and to inform recommendations for the protection and management of any sites recovered. The survey, carried out between the 1st and 3rd of October 2018, identified new sites of archaeological interest including houses, shielings, pens, enclosures, boundary walls and a boulder shelter. This report also incorporates survey results for the Bens area focused on the deserted settlement at Croulin, outer Loch Hourn, gathered by the North of Scotland Archaeological Society in 2009. Mitigation measures are proposed to safeguard the sites during the establishment of the woodland creation project. <1>
