EHG5326 - Walkover Survey - A'Chailleach Hydro, Loch Arkaig, Spean Bridge

Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

June 2018

Description

An archaeological walkover survey and desk-based assessment were undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2018 on land at A’Chailleach, on the north shore of Loch Arkaig in advance of installation of a new hydro scheme. The survey was required as the proposed development is located in an area with potential for the presence of unrecorded historic environment features. Fifteen archaeological sites were recorded, including boundary dykes, post-medieval structures, enclosures and numerous clearance cairns. An assessment of the cultural heritage significance was made and a mitigation strategy was proposed to safeguard the sites from damage during the installation of the new hydro scheme. <1>
