Date

May 2018

Description

An intermittent archaeological watching brief was to be undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2018 at Ness Castle, Inverness to satisfy the requirements of planning consent. The watching brief was designed to provide regular monitoring of the site ground works and to identify and record all unforeseen archaeological deposits revealed during the course of initial development phases. However, approximately 90% of the development area was stripped of topsoil without any archaeological monitoring. The inspection failed to identify any significant archaeological deposits or finds. Deposits and finds of 20th century date were noted at specified locations. On the basis of the evidence gathered during the site inspection it was concluded that no further archaeological monitoring of the development ground works was justified and no further archaeological work was recommended. <1>
