Date

April-May 2019

Description

Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd was commissioned by Robertson Partnership Homes to monitor the stripping of topsoil and to excavate and record exposed archaeological features at Lower Slackbuie, Inverness in April and May 2019 . The work took place in advance of housing development. This work followed on from an earlier phase of trial trenching that had recorded clusters of pre-historic features located on higher ground towards the north-east end of the site (see EHG5386). The investigation identified prehistoric activity ranging from the Neolithic through to the Iron Age. The features discovered included seven roundhouses, an oval palisade enclosure, one four-poster structure, two possible rectangular houses as well as numerous pits and post-holes. <1> The results of the fieldwork were published online in SAIR. <2>
