Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Northlight Heritage in 2014 on the edge of Balblair Wood, near Beauly, on the line of a proposed access track (Track 1) and tower construction compound (BF3) which formed part of the Beauly to Denny 400kV overhead line development programme. A total of 13 trenches with a total area of approximately 500 m² were opened by mechanical excavator. Several stone cairns were investigated during the course of the evaluation and were found to be modern stone clearance. A 19th/20th century field boundary, a mid-20th century bottle dump, 20th century ceramic, slate roof tiles and a Victorian coin were found during the evaluation. No significant archaeological remains were encountered. <1>
