Description
A rapid archaeological condition survey was undertaken by Northlight Heritage in 2013 on General Wade's Military Road (Scheduled Ancient Monument Nos. 6128 and 6129) as part of the Beauly to Denny 400 kV overhead line development programme. The survey focussed on a stretch of the 18th century military road which runs from the base of the zig-zags in the Corrieyairack to a point some 2.5 km along the road to the south-east. The current condition of the road was recorded, along with points of specific cultural heritage interest. Sections of the monument which had the potential to suffer from future erosion or damage were also noted. Some of the road had undergone recent upgrading and was considered relatively stable. However, 24 locations were identified where the risk of future erosion and/or damage was considered possible. <1>
