Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

March 2018

Description

A programme of archaeological works consisting of an archaeological evaluation in advance of the Phase 1b Enabling Works required for a pumping station and infiltration ponds at the Tornagrain housing development was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2018. The works covered three distinct areas and a 7% evaluation was required. In total five trenches totalling 362m² were excavated revealing a sandy loam topsoil overlying a natural of mottled sands with gravel patches. The area had been intensively ploughed with plough scarring visible where the topsoil was shallow. The evaluation did not reveal any features or artefacts of archaeological significance and as such no further works were recommended. <1>
