Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
Feb-Apr 2018
Description
An archaeological watching brief during Stage 3 Ground Investigation Works on the A9 Dualling project between Tomatin and Moy was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2018. The excavation of 108 trial pits was monitored. On average the trial pits were between 2.5-8m long and 0.8-2m wide but were often varied in size and shape, relative to the size of machine and bucket used for excavation. The size of some trial pits was also affected by thick vegetation, tree cover or bedrock. They were dug to a depth of 4.5m unless groundwater, collapse or other unavoidable incidents prevented further excavation. No archaeological features were observed during the fieldwork. <1>
