EHG5458 - DBA and walkover survey - Proposed Achlain Hydro scheme
Technique(s)
Organisation
Highland Eco-Design
Date
April 2017
Description
A desk-based assessemmnt and walkover survey were carried out by Highland Eco-Design in 2017 on an area of land off the A887, South of Achlain House which was proposed for a 100kW Hydro development, consisting of intakes, penstock and a turbine House. There are no Scheduled Monuments or other designated heritage assets within the development boundary and option area. The object of the assessment was to identify previously recorded archaeological features and predict areas of archaeological interest within the option area, to pinpoint areas where further field survey might be necessary to assess the impact of the Hydro development on archaeological features, and to suggest measures to protect the archaeological record. It appeared that the effect on the archaeological record of the project would be slight. No prehistoric features would be likely to be affected and almost all of the features identified in the area, dated to the modern, post-clearance period and which were likely to have been disturbed by verge construction during work on the trunk road (A887). <1>
