Description
A desk-based assessemnt and walkover survey were undertaken by CFA Archaeology in 2015 to assess the likely effects on heritage assets associated with the proposed refurbishment of the existing overhead 132kV OHL transmission line between Ceannacroc Substation (Tower: 101) and Inverwick (Tower: 135) and proposed assess track routes including upgrading of existing tracks and proposed new access tracks leading to the existing OHL. The cultural heritage study area was divided into two zones – an Inner Study Area and an Outer Study Area – to enable the consideration of different types of possible effects on heritage assets resulting from the Proposed Development. The Inner Study Area assessed the potential for direct (physical) effects upon heritage assets within a 200m wide corridor centred on the existing 132kV OHL and proposed access tracks. The Outer Study Area assessed the consideration of potential operation (indirect) impacts upon the setting of heritage assets used a 1km wide corridor centred on the existing 132kV OHL. A walk-over reconnaissance field survey of a 100m wide corridor along the route of the existing OHL and proposed new access track routes was undertaken in October 2015. It was concluded that there are no predicted indirect effects upon the settings of cultural heritage assets, as existing towers will be reutilised. Taking into account the construction methodology to be employed, and the avoidance and mitigation measures which would be employed, it was considered that the project would have no significant residual adverse effect on the known cultural heritage resource. <1>
