EHG5467 - Watching brief - Farr Transmission Cable Installation, Knocknagael to Tomatin 275kV OHL

Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

April-July 2018

Description

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group at Farr, near Inverness, in advance of the installation of a transmission cable as part of the construction work for the Knocknagael to Tomatin 275kV overhead line. The overhead line runs through a rich prehistoric and post-medieval archaeological landscape. As a result, all ground breaking was subject to a watching brief. The watching brief was carried out intermittently between April and July. There were no finds or features of archaeological significance recorded. In addition to the watching brief, a walkover survey was undertaken at the area of Dip 3 where five previously unrecorded sites related to post-medieval settlement were identified as being at risk from development works; including two dykes and three structures. Due to changes in the programme, the works at Dip 3 were not required.
