Description
A walkover survey was carried out by Highland Archaeology Services in 2019 ahead of work for the formation of an access track crossing the Allt a’ Choire Mhoir to the East of Sheneval, Tomatin. The walkover survey was conducted in a systematic manner within a principal survey corridor of approximately 75m, in order to assess the presence or absence, character, extent and condition of sites, monuments and landscape features identified by the DBA located within or adjacent to the development corridor. The survey also identified and described further heritage assets, or potential heritage assets, not identified by the documentary study. Eleven features were recorded, these include three dykes one with a substantial ditch, six clearance cairns, one possible enclosure and one structure. Other features were noted in the area but were not recorded due to their distance from the development. Recommendations were made for further work to include marking off of features close to the development and the recording of sections through dykes where they will be damaged. <1>
