EHG5494 - Magnetometer survey - Muirfield Farm, Culloden
Technique(s)
Organisation
Magnitude Surveys
Date
Nov 2019
Description
A fluxgate gradiometer survey was undertaken by Magnitude Surveys in 2019 at Muirfield Farm, Culloden, Inverness. The survey was completed across the 2.7ha site, but no anomalies suggestive of significant archaeological features were identified. The geophysical results were characterised by widespread natural variation in the near surface, this had created a varied magnetic background making the identification of weaker anomalies difficult to identify. However, ephemeral anomalies relating to modern and historical agricultural use were detected. The impact of modern activity on the results was generally limited to the perimeter of the site relating to wire fencing. <1> <2>
