Date

Sept 2017

Description

A watching brief was carried out by CFA Archaeology in 2017 during the excavation of test-pits and other site investigation works in advance of works associated with the proposed Broadford Community Hospital development. Ten test-pits (TP1-10), one soakaway pit (SA01) and one percolation pit (PT01) were excavated. In two test-pits (TP7 and TP9), deposits of cobbles, some possibly burnt with a black matrix containing charcoal were identified. These were located in the east of the site on a raised beach. Unfortunately these test-pits flooded rapidly from ground water and the sides were very unstable. It was not possible to enter them and assess the exposed deposits. Two drains were also recorded. <1>
