Date
Dec 2016
Description
A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken by Rathmell Archaeology in 2016 to consider the Historic Environment in respect of the proposed Little Mills extension at Mid Lairgs Sand and Gravel Quarry, Mid Lairgs. These works were designed to inform on the character of historic environment sites which may be affected, assess the significance of the anticipated impact and thereby inform the design of the proposed development and any necessary mitigation strategy. The desk–based assessment identified no historic environment sites protected by designation within the development area. In addition, no non-designated archaeological sites were identified within the area. The walkover survey also failed to identify any new historic environment sites within the development area. It was concluded that the proposed development will not constitute an adverse impact in terms of the protection of the historic environment. Mitigation was proposed to address the potential for currently unknown archaeological sites within the development area. <1>
