EHG5555 - Walkover survey - new power cable, Mudale, Altnaharra

A desk based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2019 in advance of the installation of a new underground power cable at Mudale, Altnaharra, Sutherland. The survey identified twelve features including two groups of clearance cairns and a series of interconnecting dykes all close to the proposed cable route. These mainly formed part of previously identified areas of activity with some previously unrecorded dry stone walls and a possible modern midden. Finally, a short section of possible prehistoric wall was noted close to the north end of the route. Recommendations were made for further archaeology work particularly a watching brief during the development. <1>
