Date

July 2018

Description

An archaeological watching brief was conducted by CFA Archaeology in 2018 on land around Shepherd's Cottage on the Hope Estate, Sutherland, with a total coverage of 810m² following an evaluation that had uncovered possible postholes (see EHG5569). In many places shallow and amorphous pit like features were investigated but were interpreted as natural stone holes and were not recorded any further. The fills investigated were topsoil like and sterile apart from small quantities of charcoal. The results of this work confirm the interpretation of the features found in the evaluation as not being anthropogenic in origin. No features, deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified. <1>
