Organisation

Date

May 2019

Description

An archaeological desk-based study and walk-over survey of the route of a proposed forest road and borrow pits in a forest plantation near Brawlbin, in Caithness, was undertaken by N Lindsay in 2019. The survey was required in order to establish the extent of archaeological remains in advance of the proposed road construction and subsequent felling. The survey resulted in the location of 19 archaeological features/sites, 2 of which had not previously been recorded. Thirteen of these features, grouped into 6 sites, have been awarded Scheduled Ancient Monument status and are, therefore, of national archaeological significance. Two previously recorded archaeological sites were not found during this survey and two sites, both of which are Scheduled Ancient Monuments, bordering the eastern boundary of the site, were also visited to assess the impact of any works on them. <1>
