Description
An archaeological desk based assessment and walkover survey was carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2019 on behalf of Trees for Life and Ben Damph Estate in advance of a potential native woodland planting scheme along the east shore of Loch Damh and the northwest side of Srath a’ Bhathaich, Torridon, Wester Ross. The walkover survey recorded 16 new archaeological sites comprising a total of 28 individual structures. These included a prehistoric hut circle and associated field system, the site of a possible illicit still and a range of structures relating to transhumance activities in the landscape. The latter included shielings, stock enclosures and twinning pens that were possibly used during the droving of livestock between different communities and to markets. <1>
