EHG5638 - DBA and walkover survey - proposed substation, Dalchork
Technique(s)
Organisation
CFA Archaeology Ltd
Date
Jan 2018
Description
A walkover survey of the Inner Study Area for a proposed electricity substation at Dalchork was undertaken by CFA Archaeology in 2018 to inform an environmental assessment to be submitted as part of a planning application. This followed changes to the boundary of the proposed development, and a previous field survey had been carried out by CFA Archaeology in 2017 (see EHG5637). The forestry within the Inner Study Area had recently been felled and a large amount of tree brash and tree stumps covered the ground, hampering visibility of low relief features on the ground. As a result of the ground conditions, detailed survey principally targeted previously recorded archaeological sites. Site visits to assess the character and sensitivity of the settings of the identified heritage assets in the Outer Study Area had been undertaken during the field survey in January 2017. These site visits focused on those designated heritage assets that lie in close proximity to the Proposed Development and from which there is predicted visibility based on the Substation ZTV. <1>
