EHG5659 - Trial trenching - new housing, Castlepark, Dingwall (Phase 1)
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
Sept 2020
Description
The first phase of a trial trenching evaluation was carried out by AOC Archaeology in 2020 prior to the construction of new homes and associated works at land 155m northeast of 30 Chestnut Road, Dingwall. The evaluation was required because the development site is located in an area of rich archaeological potential. Seventeen trenches were excavated but no significant archaeological features were present. Several field drains and evidence of vegetation clearance were present across the site, indicating previous agricultural activity. No further archaeological work is recommended for this phase; however, the remainder of the evaluation will need to be carried out before the next phase of construction can commence. <1>
The second phase of fieldwork was carried out in 2021 (see EHG5660).
