EHG5663 - Watching brief - underground cabling, Mudale, Altnaharra
Technique(s)
Organisation
Highland Archaeology Services Ltd
Date
March 2019
Description
A watching brief and micro-siting programme were undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2019 on behalf of SSE Networks in response to the findings of an walkover survey carried out the previous month (see EHG5555). The walkover survey had identified twelve features including two groups of clearance cairns and a series of interconnecting dykes all close to the proposed cable route. These mainly formed part of previously identified areas of activity with some previously unrecorded dry-stone walls and a possible modern midden. A short section of possible prehistoric wall was also noted close to the north end of the route. The Watching Brief allowed for the cable route to deviate away from any areas of archaeological interest whilst allowing recording of any new archaeological deposits / materials. No previously unrecorded archaeological material was recovered and no further archaeological mitigation is recommended. <1>
