Description

A watching brief was undertaken by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2019 at the site of an outfall pipe-welding towing and launching site at Murkel Bay, Caithness for Scottish Water. The trench to be cut through the sand dune would be used to guide the assembled outflow pipe, which measured around 900m long, over the higher ground at the back of the beach down to the foreshore, where it would be towed out in Dunnet Bay to its final anchoring point. The watching brief recorded a cut through the upper section of the stable sand dune and identified a stone spread associated with the up-cast from a nearby trackway, which was not impacted by the works. <1>
