EHG5672 - Watching brief - Ground Investigation works, Nairn Academy

Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

March 2022

Description

A watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2022 during ground investigation works associated with a proposed new replacement secondary school within the grounds of the existing Nairn Academy. Although no known archaeological sites were present within the development area, the surrounding landscape is rich in prehistoric archaeology. A total of seven trial pits were excavated as part of the GI works. Two archaeological features were partially exposed in two trial pits. These consisted of a linear feature containing a fragment of a ceramic object and a probable prehistoric pit. The results of the work will be collated alongside the results of a recent geophysical survey on the site in order to provide baseline archaeological date for a proposed archaeological trial trenching evaluation of the development site. <1>
