Description
A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken by J.G. Robertson in 2019 on behalf of Miller Harris along the proposed route of a forestry road on Drimnin Estate, Morvern, Lochaber. The survey area is situated in the NW corner of the Morvern peninsula and consists of a curvilinear strip, running northwestwards from the Mungasdail Burn to the shore of Loch Sunart. The survey area consists of a narrow strip of ground, 25m either side of the proposed forest road and a 50m radius around the timber transfer point at the NW end of the proposed route. Twenty-six archaeological sites were recorded in a desk-based and walkover survey. Conditions for archaeological survey were good, apart from heather masking the ground surface occasionally in the open grazing land. The forestry plantation at the NW end consists of mature trees and visibility within the forest was good for archaeological interpretation, though some damage has occurred from ploughing and planting. Recommendations were made to avoid or mitigate impact on the archaeological features. <1>
