EHG5695 - Watching brief - new housing, Deans Park, Dornoch (Phase 6)

Technique(s)

Organisation

AOC Archaeology Group

Date

March 2020

Description

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2020 at Deans Park, Dornoch, in advance of the construction of 6 new dwellings part of a wider housing development. Previous work in 2008 and 2019 had uncovered a range of archaeological features including ditches and a ring ditch, which was recorded as a prehistoric burial enclosure. The area covered by this phase of the development had been previously topsoil-stripped and had ground levels reduced, therefore no archaeological deposits or features were identified within the Phase 4 development area. Two areas were identified as still having significant potential for surviving archaeology, in the southeast and southwest of the wider development area. <1> NOTE: the locations of the 2008 evaluation trenches shown on the plan on page 10 of the report for the 2020 watching brief are incorrect. These were the intended locations, but they were not actually excavated there.
