Description

An additional walkover survey was undertaken by CFA Archaeology in 2019 of sites and areas not visited previously in 2017 (see EHG5700) in the area of the proposed Garvary Wind Farm development site in order to inform a full Environmental Statement. Twenty-nine heritage assets were identified within the Inner Study Area. The majority of these assets are related to post-medieval, pre-improvement period agricultural use of the landscape and include former townships and small farmsteads and other associated buildings and structures. There are also some prehistoric remains present within the site including prehistoric settlement remains, assessed as being of regional importance and medium sensitivity, around the proposed site entrance, in the west of the site. Thirteen of the assets identified are of medium sensitivity, 13 are of low sensitivity and three are assessed as being of negligible sensitivity. An assessment of the known cultural heritage resource within and in the immediate vicinity of the Inner Study Area, and the current and past land-use, indicated that there is a moderate probability of hitherto unidentified archaeological remains being present within the site; especially for remains of prehistoric date around the site entrance. <1> The survey data also informed an updated Cultural Heritage chapter for the Environmental Statement (<1>) <3>
