EHG5704 - Watching brief - Underground Cabling, Corran Narrows
Technique(s)
Organisation
Clyde Archaeology
Date
June 2021- Feb 2022
Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Clyde Archaeology in 2021-22 on behalf of Cnoclee Environmental Services as part of a series of mitigation measures to minimise any impact a new subsea cable could have on the historic environment. The cable was installed by Scottsh and Southern Electricity Networks across the Corran Narrows, Highland. The watching brief was undertaken on the land connections. The majority of the underground cable route comprised deep peat which, in most cases extended beyond the 1 to 1.2m depth of the cable trench. The exception to this was at the eastern and western ends of the underground cable on the Ardgour side where topsoil was present on top of the natural subsoil. No significant archaeological remains were uncovered. <1>
