Description
An archaeological desk-based assessment and walkover surveys were carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2022 for the Knoydart Forest Trust, Knoydart, Lochaber, in advance of a proposed woodland creation project. The work was undertaken to assess the nature and extent of any archaeological sites likely to be affected within the areas outlined for planting and regeneration and to inform recommendations for the protection and management of any sites recovered. The surveys identified 21 sites of archaeological interest including buildings, shielings, pens, enclosures, boundary walls, field systems, rig and furrow cultivation and a possible mill. Mitigation measures are proposed to safeguard the sites during the establishment of the woodland creation projects. <1>
