Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2021 for the installation of a new service trench for the development of a site for a new museum annex building at Strathnaver Museum in Bettyhill, Sutherland. This was carried out after an earlier evaluation (see EHG5731) and excavation (see EHG5733) just to the north had exposed significant archaeological deposits. Work
revealed several features, all of which were only partially exposed in the trench. The features had cut through a mid grey-brown sandy silt with animal bone and slag, which underlay the topsoil and appeared similar to the midden layers exposed in the main excavation area. <1>
