Date
2021
Description
A metal detecting survey was undertaken by Avon Archaeology (Highland) in 2021 at a site of proposed development (Bombay Farm) located SE of The Lade, Cromdale. The site is located within the footprint of the designated Cromdale Battlefield (BTL20), where Jacobite and Royal armies fought in 1690 at the end of the first Jacobite Rising. Fieldwork involved a metal detecting survey of an SSE supply trench corridor and an inspection and recording of the excavated trench. The metal detecting survey recovered a very small assemblage of metal objects, none of which were considered to be archaeologically significant. Features revealed in the trench cutting were restricted to a single pit/ditch cut, the fill of which produced 20th century bottle glass. No further archaeological mitigation was recommended, either in advance of or during the installation of the new SSE electricity supply. <1>
