EHG5771 - Watching brief - new house plot, Moyness Road, Auldearn

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2020 at a residential development site at Moyness Road, Auldearn. The watching brief was required due to the presence of a Scheduled Monument (SM11644) on site, and the potential for buried archaeological remains to be present. The fieldwork was carried out on 3rd August 2020 during which excavations for a service trench and house foundations were monitored by an archaeologist. The area was shown to be previously disturbed by quarrying activities. The Scheduled Monument was fenced off to prevent damage during the works; however, it was observed that works carried out during previous land use had already disturbed the monument. No archaeological features were recorded during the watching brief. <1>
