Date

Description

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in 2020 prior to the insertion of underground service cabling for the installation of a new pedestrian crossing near the Drumnadrochit Health Centre, between Lewiston and Drumnadrochit. Previous archaeological evaluation, excavation and watching brief carried out between 2017 and 2019 within the surrounding area had identified significant prehistoric archaeological features and artefacts. This watching brief was required in order to identify and record further significant archaeological sites prior to their destruction by the development. This work comprised the excavation of a 0.3m wide and 0.6m deep cable trench extending 105m and one joint bay, measuring 3.5m x 1.4m and 1.3m deep. No archaeological features were identified during the works, however these were minimal in nature and there is potential for further unknown archaeological features to be present across the site outwith the works area. <1>
