Date

Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by AECOM in 2020 to inform an archaeological impact assessment with relation to a proposed train station and loop at Inverness Airport, Dalcross. The scheme will consist of the construction of a double platform railway station and associated facilities and infrastructure, earthworks associated with a railway track loop, works to facilitate the closure of the U5409 following removal of Overbridge 87, a pedestrian/cycle access ramp off the U5409, a permanent compound/railway access point, layby, a railway link into the Norbord factory and works to facilitate the closure of Dalcross/Petty Level Crossing including the provision of a new stepped footbridge and the change of use of land to operational land. A study area of 500m around the scheme red line boundary was considered in order to understand the nature of the cultural heritage landscape surrounding the Inverness Airport Station development. Evaluation by trial trenching (with potential for subsequent works as appropriate) and a historic building record of the current C19 railway bridge were recommended. <1>
