Description

A programme of photographic survey was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2020 ahead of dualling works along the current route of the A9 between Glen Garry and Kincraig, Highland on behalf of CH2M Fairhurst Joint Venture (CFJV), acting for their client Transport Scotland. The work was focussed on sixteen cultural heritage assets to mitigate the impacts from Project 7, Project 8 and Project 9 as identified in their respective Environmental Statements. The majority of these impacts affect the setting of the identified assets. The survey was undertaken to produce a full visual record of the current setting of Wade Bridge (Asset 8.3), Crubenmore Old Bridge (Asset 8.13), Crubenmore New Bridge (Asset 8.14), Ruthven Barracks (Asset 9.16), Lynchat Souterrain (Asset 9.28), Balavil Obelisk and Burial Ground (Asset 9.42), Balavil West Lodge and Gate Piers (Asset 9.43), Balavil Mains and Former Steading (Asset 9.45), Balavil House (9.47) and Balavil East Lodge and Gate Piers (Asset 9.48) was carried out. A physical impact has also been identified for six of the assets. In mitigation, Enhanced historic building recording was carried out at Dubhaig Bridge (Asset 7.17), Chuirn Bridge (Asset 7.19), Bhotie Bridge (Asset 7.26) and Truim Aqueduct (Asset 8.8). A Basic historic building recording was carried out at Drumochter Lodge (Asset 7.18). <1>
