Technique(s)

Organisation

Stuart Farrell

Date

March 2021

Description

A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by S Farrell in 2021 to the southwest of Boleskine House. A total of 12 trenches, all 1.7m wide, amounting to 595 m² were excavated in the development area. Work revealed no archaeological features or deposits of interest in any of the trenches with no indication of any others; only two few pieces of late 19th century pottery (not retained) were recovered either from the topsoil or the subsoil. Overall the area to the centre of the site and the area by the existing access road was heavily disturbed with either a former track (modern) or with modern debris caused by the dumping of waste building material both associated with the site of a former camp associated with Foyers Power Station. There was no indication of the development area being an area of archaeological activity. <1> Awaiting report as of 01/04/2021.
