Technique(s)
Organisation

Date
March 2021
Description
A preliminary archaeological desk-based assessment with a site visit was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2021 in advance of the proposed development of a parcel of land (Plots 1 and 2), 135m west of Diamond Cottage, Portskerra, Melvich, for two new dwellings and associated access and services. This work was designed to fulfil a planning condition placed on the development. The survey was designed to inform the planning process by means of a review of documentary and cartographic sources for the study area. Research included an assessment of previously recorded heritage assets located within a 1km radius of the proposed development footprint and a site walkover. On the basis of the documentary sources consulted for the project, combined with the results of a site walkover, it is concluded that the site has low potential for the preservation of significant buried archaeological deposits. <1>
