Technique(s)
Organisation

Date
April-May 2021
Description
A trail trenching evaluation was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2021 at land north of Craighill Terrace, Tain, Inverness, Highland, ahead of the construction of a new campus. The subsequent development will comprise new campus buildings, associated roads and services. The fieldwork was carried out between 19th April-4th May 2021, during which 33 trenches were excavated comprising 5634m². A few small, isolated pits were recorded, which were interpreted as the truncated remains of possible prehistoric pits. A ruinous stone structure was also identified within the field in a location corresponding to a small structure shown on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition map of 1904. This building was not depicted on the 1st edition maps, suggesting it was built and used during the 20th century. <1>
