Date
2021
Description
A trial trenching evaluation was undertaken by Avon Archaeology (Highland) in 2021 at a site NW of Hedgeside, Swordale, Evanton, in accordance with the requirements of a Condition attached to planning consent for a new house. The evaluation was required in order to establish the presence or absence of significant buried archaeological remains on the site and, if present, to determine their character and significance. Nine evaluation trenches were opened within the development area in order to provide a representative sample of the site as a whole and target the location of proposed new buildings and associated infrastructure. The trenches failed to reveal any significant buried archaeological remains of any kind and no further archaeological mitigation is recommended, either in advance of or during development works. <1>
