Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2021 during soil stripping works for a house development at Framside, Calder, Thurso. The site is located approximately 100m south of Framsde broch, and was considered to have archaeological potential. Two trenches were excavated covering the house footprint and surrounding work area, and a portion of a cable trench where it passed nearest to the broch. Both trenches were stripped down to natural deposits and no archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were encountered. A dry stone wall breached for the project was recorded photographically, and photographs taken of the broch to add to the HHER record. No further work is recommended. <1>
