EHG5879 - Watching brief - HVDC Cable, Noss Head, Staxigioe, Wick

Technique(s)

Organisation

ORCA

Date

April- June 2021

Description

A watching brief was undertaken by Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology (ORCA) in 2021 during ground-breaking works associated with the installation of an underground cable to connect the subsea cable from landfall north of Staxigoe, Wick, to an HVDC Station on the north edge of Wick Airport. The programme of archaeological monitoring showed that there was no material of archaeological significance present in those areas affected by the current scheme of works. The only archaeological remains observed were features of negligible significance related to the post-medieval or modern agricultural occupation of the landscape. It was recommended that no further work on the site would be necessary as part of the current scheme. <1>
