Date

Aug 2021

Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2021 during excavations to abandon a section of twin 3” CI mains on the banks of the Caledonian Canal (SM5292). Two small areas (circa 1.6m x 1.4m and 1.4-1.6m deep) were excavated on the east and west banks of the canal. The Caledonian Canal is a Scheduled Monument (SM5292), a nationally important heritage asset and Scheduled Monument Consent was required for these works. The works did not impact on any undisturbed archaeological deposits, therefore no further archaeological work is recommended. <1>
