EHG5893 - Metal detecting survey - proposed agricultural building, Viewhill, Inverness
Technique(s)
Organisation
Highland Archaeology Services Ltd
Date
Sept 2021
Description
A systematic metal detecting survey was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2021 ahead of the erection of an agricultural building at Viewhill, Inverness. The work was undertaken to fulfil a planning condition put in place due to the site being within the designated Culloden Muir battlefield. The survey recovered four finds of potential interest. However, one of these has been discounted as modern. The other three have the potential to relate to the battlefield; one has been tentatively interpreted as a horse picket or ramrod whilst the other two scrap fragments of iron have no direct parallel or interpretation. No further work is recommended for this site, but three of the artefacts will be submitted to TTU for consideration. <1>
