Date

June-Aug 2021

Description

A systematic metal detecting survey was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2021 covering work during installation of 6 temporary modular units and ancillary infrastructure at Culloden Academy, Highland. The survey work was undertaken over 2 days on 21st June and 3rd August 2021 and was undertaken to fulfil a planning condition put in place due to the site being within the designated battlefield of Culloden fought in 1746. The original survey of the portacabin and muster point recovered 1 object and further metal detecting during a subsequent watching brief (see EHG5897) recovered 1 further object. These were a possible rectangular buckle and an unidentified iron object. No other artefacts of any historic value or related to the battle were found. No further work is recommended for this site. <1>
