EHG5932 - Desk-based assessment - proposed new housing, Milton of Leys
Technique(s)
Organisation
CFA Archaeology Ltd
Date
July 2022
Description
A desk-based assessment was carried out by CFA Archaeology in 2022 for an area of proposed housing at Milton of Leys, Inverness, that established that there are surviving remains of up to regional heritage value (medium sensitivity) within the proposed development site. These include the remains of a prehistoric settlement uncovered (though not excavated or dated) during previous archaeological investigations and a possible cropmark of what may be an enclosure of prehistoric date. Both these assets would be directly affected by the proposed development and mitigation measures were recommended to offset the predicted effects. The findings of the study indicated that there is a moderate potential for previously unrecorded archaeological remains to survive within the proposed development site. Any mitigation measures to avoid, reduce and offset the effects of the proposed development would need to be agreed with the Highland Council Historic Environment Team and detailed in a Written Scheme of Investigation and implemented in advance of development. <1>
